Upload a media file that you recorded outside of Riverside to generate a transcript of the conversation, create Magic Clips, and customize it in the editor.

Upload audio or video file for editing

 Step by step

  • Steps on a computer

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. Navigate to the relevant studio.
    3. At the top of the screen, click Upload. 
    4. Click Select file. 
      Or, drag and drop a file into the box.
      Or, upload a file from Google Drive.
    5. Select a media file on your computer that meets the requirements.
    6. Click Open.
    7. From the dropdown menu, select the number of speakers in the recording.
      Riverside creates separate audio tracks for each speaker that you can rename in the editor.

    8. Next to Separate video tracks, toggle on toggle-on.svg if you would like to split speakers into separate video tracks.
      • Toggle off toggle-off-grey_36x24.svg if you prefer you a single video track. 
    9. Click Upload. 
      Keep the page open while the file uploads. You can leave it while Riverside processes it.

  • Steps on a phone

    1. Download and launch the Riverside iOS app or the Riverside Android app.
    2. At the the bottom of the screen, tap plus.svgCreate.
    3. Tap Icon.svg Import file to edit.
    4. Select a media file from your mobile device.

    5. Next to Number of speakers, select the number of speakers in the recording.

      The separate audio tracks for each speaker are not available in the mobile app. However, you can access and rename them in the editor via the browser.

    6. Tap Upload.
      Keep the app open while uploading is in progress.

  • You can also upload files from within a specific project. 
  • External file uploads are limited depending on what plan you have.
  • If you do not separate video tracks, then you cannot apply video layouts in the editor.
  • The uploaded file's FPS is determined by the studio's FPS settings. For instance, if an external recording uploaded to Riverside is in 29.97 FPS, but the studio’s settings are set to 24 FPS, the recording will be imported at 24 FPS.
  • Riverside doesn't support HDR video for external uploads. If you upload a file recorded in HDR (10-bit color), it's converted to standard dynamic range (SDR) during processing, which can cause a visible color shift.
  • The uploaded file's resolution is not affected by your studio's resolution.

  • When you import a recording with background music, Riverside creates separate audio tracks for each speaker. The background music won’t carry over and will not be available in the timeline.

  • Separate video tracks is available only for uploaded videos that meet specific layout and participant requirements. If video separation is not possible, Riverside still creates separate audio tracks.
