I can't import my subscriber list to my newsletter

Follow these steps when:

  • Your subscriber import for your newsletter failed.
  • You're missing subscribers from your newsletter list after importing a CSV.

Likely causes:

The format of your CSV import was incorrect.

Suggested troubleshooting steps

  • Check the requirements below to ensure that your CSV is formatted correctly. Make any necessary changes, then try re-uploading.
    • File requirements
      • One CSV file of 50 MB or less. The file must not be empty.
      • UTF-8, comma-separated. The first row must be a header.
      • Maximum 10,000 data rows. Empty lines do not count.
      • All rows must have the same number of columns as the header.
    • Column formatting
      • Email is required. If a file does not include an email header, the import fails. The header match ignores case, spaces and -.
        • Accepted headers: email, email address, e-mail, mail, emailaddress.
      • Name is optional. Any header that does not match the list below will not be imported.
        • Accepted headers: name, full name, fullname, subscriber name, contact name, display name.
        • first_name and last_name do not import.
      • Country is optional. Any header that does not match the list below will not be imported.
        • Accepted headers: country, country code, country name, nation, region.
      • The server ignores all other columns.
  • Check your plan to make sure you're not over the limit of subscribers. The server counts all rows in the file before it validates any of them, including invalid rows and duplicates. If your current subscribers plus all file rows go over the cap, the import fails.
    • Trial: 100 total subscribers
    • Paid: 10,000 total subscribers
    • Imported, manual and API subscribers count toward the cap. Website and podcast sign-ups do not.
  • If you're missing specific subscribers, check their rows in your CVS to ensure they are formatted correctly. The server does not import an individual row if:
    • The email cell is empty.
    • The email has a bad format (must not have any spaces).
    • The domain is a disposable email domain.
    • The domain has no MX record.
    • The email is a duplicate in the file or is already a subscriber.
