Set default transcription language

« To Studio settings: Recording

Riverside uses AI to transcribe your recording. By default, it transcribes conversations in English. For greater accuracy when generating transcriptions, you can indicate the language spoken in your studio.

  • Steps on a computer

    From the dashboard

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
      If you have multiple studios, select the relevant studio.
    2. In the bottom left corner, click the account menu button.
    3. Click Settings
    4. Under Audio & Video, click Studio settings.
    5. From the tabs at the top, click General.
    6. Scroll down to Language.
    7. Next to Transcript & captions language, select a language from the dropdown menu. 
      The setting applies to future recordings and does not generate new transcriptions for past recordings.

    From the studio

    1. Using a computer, join a studio as the host or as a producer.
    2. From the studio sidebar, click  settings.svg Settings.
    3. Click Open all settings.
    4. Click Recording.
    5. Next to Transcript & captions language, select a language from the dropdown menu. 
      The setting applies to future recordings and does not generate new transcriptions for past recordings.

  • Steps on a phone

    Android and iOS

    1. Download and launch the Riverside mobile app.
    2. At the top right corner of the screen, tap the three dots.

    3. Tap Studio settings.

    4. Tap Set the language being spoken.

    5. Select a language from the dropdown menu. 

    6. Tap Save.

  • In certain cases, transcription may default to a related or “parent” language, even when the correct language is selected. This fallback behavior can occur with languages that share phonetics, scripts, or linguistic roots.
  • The Riverside mobile app can transcribe right-to-left languages (ex. Hebrew, Arabic), however the transcriptions will display as left-to-right.
