Add music to your recording as an intro or outro, transition, or as background music to make your video more engaging. Upload your own music or choose from our license-free music library.

You can either add music into the recording timeline itself or as overlays on top of the recording.

Step by step

  • Add music overlays

    Add a music overlay to underscore your recording.

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
    3. Move the playhead to the desired position on the timeline.
    4. From the editor toolbar on the right, click Audio.
    5. In the music panel on the right, you can:
      • Use the search bar to search for music based on title or tag.
      • Filter for mood, style, and genre.
      • Explore ready-made collections based on podcast topic.
      • Explore the full list of available music. Click the Play.svg play icon to preview a song.
      • To upload your own music track, click Your Media in the toolbar on the right and upload your audio file.
    6. Drag and drop your selection onto the video canvas over Add overlay to add as background music. 
    7. Click and drag the edges of the overlay to adjust the song's duration.

  • Add music inserts

    Add music as an intro, outro, transition, or anywhere in your recording timeline.

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
    3. At the start, end, or between any splits on the timeline, click the plus icon.
    4. Select Music.
    5. In the music panel on the right, you can:
      • Use the search bar to search for music based on title or tag.
      • Filter for mood, style, and genre.
      • Explore ready-made collections based on podcast topic.
      • Explore the full list of available music. Click the Play.svg play icon to preview a song.
      • To upload your own music track, click Your Media in the toolbar on the right and upload your audio file.
    6. To the right of your song selection, click the Button Text.svg plus icon to add it to your timeline where your scrubber is. Or, drag and drop your selection onto the video canvas over Insert to timeline.

  • Edit music

    Add music as an intro, outro, transition, or anywhere in your recording timeline.

    1. Zoom in on the timeline.
    2. Cut the music on the timeline to start and stop at any point of the song by adjusting the start and end handles of the music.
    3. Hover over the music timeline and click ••• [the three dots] to adjust:
      • Volume
      • Fade in duration
      • Fade out duration
    4. Press Backspace on your keyboard to delete the music.

Icon.svg Good to Know

  • All plans can add music, however, Pro, Live, Webinar, and Business plans have access to a more extensive music library.
  • When you use music from Riverside's library in the editor and publish the video to YouTube, you must include attribution in the video's description. Adding the required attribution helps prevent copyright claims and infringement issues.
  • You can add an unlimited number of music tracks. However, only two tracks can overlap on the timeline at any given time.
