Step by step

Add sound effects as overlays

Add a sound effect to underscore your recording.
1. Log in to your Riverside account.
2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
3. Move the playhead to the desired position on the timeline.
4. From the editor toolbar on the right, click Audio.
5. At the top of the Audio panel, click the Sound Effects tab.
6. In the panel on the right, you can:
  - Use the search bar to search for sound effects based on title or tag.
  - Filter by category.
  - Explore ready-made collections based on podcast topic.
  - Explore the full list of available sound effects. Click the play icon to preview an effect.
7. To the right of your selection, click the plus icon to add it to your timeline where your scrubber is. Drag and drop your selection onto the video canvas over Add overlay to add as a background effect.
8. Click the heart icon on a track to Add to favorites for quick reuse.
  Favorited tracks appear under Favorites at the top of the panel.
9. Click and drag the edges of the overlay to adjust the clip's duration.
Add sound effect as an insert

Add a sound effect as an intro, outro, transition, or anywhere in your timeline.
1. Log in to your Riverside account.
2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
3. At the start, end, or between any splits on the timeline, click the plus icon.
4. Select Music.
5. In the panel on the right, you can:
  1. Use the search bar to search for sound effects based on title or tag.
  2. Filter by category.
  3. Explore ready-made collections based on podcast topic.
  4. Explore the full list of available sound effects. Click the play icon to preview an effect.
6. To the right of your selection, click the plus icon to add it to your timeline where your scrubber is. Drag and drop your selection onto the video canvas over Add overlay to add as a background effect.
7. Click the heart icon on a track to Add to favorites for quick reuse.

Edit sound effects
1. Zoom in on the timeline.
2. Cut the sound effect on the timeline to start and stop at any point of the track by adjusting the start and end handles.
3. Hover over the track and click ••• [the three dots] to adjust:
  - Volume
  - Fade in duration
  - Fade out duration
4. Press Backspace on your keyboard to delete the sound effect.
