Make sure your Mac can record every in-person camera in 4K before you start your session.

When your studio is set to 4K, the MacOS desktop app asks you to run a 5-minute setup test before you record in person. The test runs your real camera setup on your Mac and checks each camera for dropped frames.
Step by step
- Connect the cameras you plan to use to your Mac.
The test only checks cameras that are connected and selected. - Open the Riverside Mac app.
- Log in to your Riverside account.
- Click Record in studio to open a studio session.
- Add your in-person guests and assign a camera to each one.
- At the bottom of the studio, click the
People icon
- In the People panel, click Test setup.
- In the Test setup window, review your resolution, frame rate, and cameras.
- To add a camera, click the
plus icon.
- To remove a camera, click the
minus icon next to it.
- To add a camera, click the
- Start the test and wait for it to finish.
At the bottom of the test window, you can view how much time is left. To stop the test early, click Cancel test. - Review the result:

Your Mac handled this setup: Your Mac can record this setup in 4K. Click Done. If you changed the setup in the test window, click Apply this setup to save it to your studio.

Your Mac doesn't support this setup: Lower the resolution to 1080p, lower the frame rate to 24 frames per second (FPS), or remove a camera. Then click Test again.

Your Mac handled this setup: Your Mac can record this setup in 4K. Click Done. If you changed the setup in the test window, click Apply this setup to save it to your studio.
- Click Record to start your session.
Good to know
- The Test setup option appears in the People panel only after you add an in-person guest.
- The test doesn't record anything. No recording is saved to your project, and nobody needs to be on camera during the test.
- The test checks every camera in your setup and your screen share.
- The Mac app supports up to 8 cameras. How many your Mac can record at once in 4K depends on its hardware.
- If you add a camera, raise the resolution or frame rate, or swap a camera, the app prompts you to test again.
- Setup changes you make in the test window are saved only when you click Apply this setup. Close the test window to continue without saving.
