Step by step

  1. Join a studio as a host or as a producer.
  2. On the right sidebar, click People.
  3. At the top of the People panel, click Audio monitor.
A separate window opens with a card for each participant and for any media that’s playing.
Under each participant’s name, check the connection and audio icons. Green means healthy, yellow means there’s a problem, and gray means no audio data is available. Hover over an icon to see what it means.
  4. From the Audio monitor window:
    1. Drag the volume slider on a participant's card - this changes how loud they sound to everyone in the session.
This applies only to the live studio audio, not the recording.
    2. Click ••• [the three dots] on a participant's card to:
      • Pin them to the stage.
      • Move them backstage.
      • Turn their camera on or off.
      • Mute or unmute them.
    3. Click the arrow icon on a participant's card to:
      • Change their microphone.
      • Change their camera.
      • Change their speaker.
      • Turn Echo cancellation on or off.

Respond to audio alerts

When a participant’s mic has a problem, an Audio issue alert appears at the top right of the studio. A red dot appears on People, and a banner appears on the participant’s card.

  1. To see the participant’s card, click Open people panel in the alert, or click People.
  2. Read the banner on the participant’s card:
    • [Name]’s mic disconnected (they’re recorded on another mic): Ask them to reconnect their mic, or choose another mic for them.
    • [Name]’s mic disconnected (no other mic available): They aren’t being recorded. Ask them to reconnect their mic or plug in another one.
    • [Name]’s mic level is too high: Their mic is distorting the recording. Ask them to move back from the mic or lower their input level.
  3. To choose another mic for the participant, click the arrow on their card, then choose a mic from the microphone list.
To dismiss a banner, click the in the top right corner.

Show only participants who need attention

To show only participants who need attention:

  1. In the People panel, click the filter icon next to Mute all.
  2. Select Needs attention.
    Only participants with alerts appear.
  3. To see everyone again, select All participants.

Audio routing (producers on Business plans)

The Audio routing controls below are available to producers in Business plan studios. Hosts don’t see Audio routing controls in the ••• [three dots] menu on a participant's card.

Hear only selected participants

These controls change only what you hear. Everyone else keeps hearing the full studio session, and all participants are still recorded.

  1. In the Audio monitor window, click ••• [the three dots] on a participant’s card.
  2. Hover over Audio routing and click Only hear them.
To hear everyone again, hover over Audio routing on the participant's card, and click Hear everyone.
To add more participants, repeat these steps on their cards.

Let a participant hear themselves

This is only available when the participant is wearing headphones and is using Chrome or Edge on a computer. If it can’t turn on, you see a message explaining why.

  1. In the Audio monitor window, click ••• [the three dots] on a participant’s card.
  2. Hover over Audio routing and click Let them hear themselves.
Hearing themselves appears on their card.
To turn it off, hover over Audio routing on the participant's card, and click Stop them hearing themselves.
