Producers help the host monitor the recording session and can adjust most studio settings. Multiple producers can join a session.
Producers are not recorded and are not seen or heard in a live stream on other platforms. However, if a producer shares their screen, uses the Media Board, or shares a presentation, these elements are recorded as separate tracks. Producers can be seen during the recording session only if they turn their mic and camera on.
Producers do not appear in the all participant cloud recording, nor do they have an individual cloud recording track.
There is no limit to the number of producers who can join. However, the more people who are in the studio, the smaller each participant's video frame will be.
Producers can join the session in one of two ways, with a Riverside account or without:
Internal producers
Internal producers are members of the Riverside account with host access to the studio. To join a studio, they log in to their Riverside account and in the studio lobby page, they select Producer from the dropdown next to Your Name. They can start and stop recordings (when using a browser), set up live streaming to other platforms, view and edit the script, control the teleprompter, and share it with guests. They can also run test recordings, end the session for everyone, and open the project sidebar.
Invited producers
Invited producers have a more limited set of studio controls than internal producers. Controls reserved for internal producers, like starting a recording or setting up a live stream, appear locked. Invited producers join a studio using a producer's invite access link or an invite email from notifications@riverside.fm without logging into an account. When granted permission, they can view and edit the script, control the teleprompter, and share it with guests. Only invited producers can join a studio using the Riverside mobile and Mac apps.
To give an invited producer full access, the account owner adds them to the Business account as a team member. They can then log in and join the studio as an internal producer.
Inviting producers is available on the Business plan only.
Invited producers are a great way to invite people to join the studio without requiring them to have a Riverside account.
For example:
- You've hired a freelance audio engineer to help you run the show
- You are interviewing someone who has their own assistant
- Someone outside of your organization is helping you monitor the session, but you don't necessarily need them to have access to the files after the show.
Studio controls reserved for internal producers appear grayed out with a bolt icon for invited producers. This includes starting and stopping recordings, setting up live streaming, adding a logo or background image, and viewing the live recording length. To ask for access, an invited producer can click a locked control, then click Send request. The account owner gets an email with the request.

Studio actions
Good to know
- Blank cells in the Invited producer column for recording, live streaming, logo, background, and recording length show actions that appear locked in the studio.
- The account owner's plan decides who can join as a producer, not the producer's own plan.
- Joining as an internal producer is available on Grow, Webinar, and Business plans. On other plans, the Producer option in the lobby shows a lock. Click it to see upgrade options.
- Invited producers see locked controls with a lock icon. To ask the account owner for access, click a locked control, then click Send request.
