Follow these steps when:
- You hear static, pops, clicking, and other noises in the studio
- Your high-quality recording tracks have static, pops, clicks, or glitchy noises
Likely causes:
Unwanted noises in your recording can result from an unnecessary Riverside feature toggled on, or from complications related to analog or digital setups.
Suggested troubleshooting steps
Follow the general troubleshooting below to address the issue, then continue to the analog or digital steps depending on the device used to record.
- Refresh the studio page.
- Use our audio tester to diagnose any possible issues before your recording.
- Try using a different microphone or a different cable/connector.
- Check that no other program is using your microphone or attempting to use it.
- If you recorded with echo cancellation enabled, try recording again with the feature turned off.
- If you hear the noises when you export a recording from the editor, try enabling or toggling off the Remove background noise audio filter.
Analog noise
An analog connection issue may sound fuzzy, like pops or crackling, or have bursts of static.
- Check the cable connections between your microphone to the audio interface, including plugs and sockets.
- Stop the current recording and try using a different cable, if you have one, or a different port.
- Keep the microphone on a stand or in a fixed place to minimize it getting bumped or moved.
Digital noise
A digital connection issue may sound more robotic and glitchy, or like the person speaking is in a wind tunnel or their voice is being chopped up by the blades of a helicopter.
- Check the USB cable and try a different one, if available.
- Close all other programs, browser tabs, or apps that might be straining your computer's resources.
- Avoid using USB hubs or adapters to connect the microphone to your computer.
- If you are using an external camera that has a built-in mic, try using a different microphone.
