Remove filler words

Remove distracting filler words like "um," "so," and "uh" from your recording in a single click to improve the flow of your conversation. You can choose to cut them, mute them, or apply a balanced mix of both to preserve natural flow.

Step by step

Remove filler words

  1. Log in to your Riverside account.
  2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
  1. On the editor toolbar, click AI tools.
  2. Next to Remove filler words, click Apply.
  3. Next to Removal methods, select an option from the drop-down:
    • Smart – Applies a balanced mix of cuts and mutes to preserve natural flow.
    • Cut – Completely removes filler words by cutting them out, which may shorten the recording.
    • Mute – Silences filler words without cutting them, keeping the audio and video timeline unchanged. 
  4. Under Sensitivity, drag the slider to set the minimum length of filler words to remove.
    Sliding it to the left limits removal to longer filler words, while sliding it to the right removes even the shortest ones.

Restore all filler words

  1. On the editor toolbar, click AI Producer.
  2. Under Remove filler words, click Revert to original

Restore a specific filler word

  1. Make sure your transcript shows deleted text.
  2. Locate the filler word in the transcript.
    Filler words you removed are shown in gray with a strikethrough
  3. Click the filler word and select revert-edit.svg Restore.

Icon.svg Good to know

  • You cannot remove filler words if they occur while someone is sharing their screen, a presentation, or a Media Board file.
  • Some filler words may not be recognized by the system as such. In these cases, they appear in the transcript as a filler-word-squiggle.svg squiggle, which is used to represent an audio disfluency picked up by the microphone.
  • You can apply Remove filler words to all recordings created or uploaded after 10 May 2024.
