Remove a word or phrase from the recording

Riverside's text-based editing lets you make precise edits and trim your recording using the transcription of the conversation that Riverside generates automatically. You can also remove entire sections.

  • Steps on a computer

    Remove word - desktop 

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
    3. From the transcript, click the word you want to remove.
      Or, click and drag to select a phrase or multiple lines.
    4. Click thedelete-remove_trash.svg Delete icon or press Backspace to cut it from the recording.

    Phrases and sections you delete are shown in gray with a strikethrough. They do not appear in search results and are not included in the downloadable transcript file.

    NOTE:
    If multiple participants spoke at the same time, you may still see their words in the transcript after you have removed that section from the recording.

  • Steps on a phone

    1. Open a recording from the Riverside mobile app.
      On the mobile app, you can create new drafts, but you are not able to make changes to in-progress drafts made on a computer.
    2. Tap Group 672972443.svg Cut at the bottom of the screen.
    3. You are redirected to an editable version of the transcript. 
    4. To remove a word, tap the word you want to delete, then tap Icon (4).svg Delete.Remove word - mobile
    5. To remove multiple words, tap the first word you want to remove, then extend your selection by tapping either the word to the left or right of it. Once the words are selected, tap Icon (4).svg Delete.
    6. To remove a phrase or paragraph, zoom out of the transcript by tapping A at the bottom of the screen. Tap on the phrase or sentence, then tap Icon (4).svg Delete.
    7. Tap Save at the top left of the screen.

    Phrases and sections you remove are shown in gray with a strikethrough.

Good to know Icon.svg Good to know

  • Only words that are grayed out and have a strikethrough in the transcript are deleted from the downloaded transcript.
  • Muting a word only silences it in the recording. Muted words that are grayed out without a strikethrough still appear in the downloaded transcript.
