Record on my own (Async recording session guide)

Use Riverside to record yourself at a convenient time and share the footage with whoever invited you. You can also use the teleprompter or share your screen while you record. 

Device: Computer browser and Riverside mobile app

Step by step

Follow the steps below based on if you're using a computer or your mobile device.

  • Record async from a computer

    1. On a computer, open the invite link you received in a Chrome or Edge browser.
      The invite URL looks like:
      https://riverside.fm/async-recording/invitation/bbee2ebli......62f
    2. Fill in your details and click Let's start.
    3. Under Let's check your devices, choose your computer's built-in hardware, or select from other connected recording equipment.
    4. Speak into the mic and check that the audio meter reacts.
      You can also click Test next to the microphone to do a test audio recording.
    5. Click Next.
    6. Check your lighting, bring the camera to your eye level and center yourself in the frame. Once you've checked your video setup, click Looks good. 
    7. Click Next.
    8. When you are ready to begin, click Record and start speaking.
    9. When you are finished, click Stop.
    10. If you are happy with your take, click Next -> to move onto the next prompt. 
      Or click Record again to erase the footage and start over. 
    11. Repeat these steps for each prompt. 
    12. Click Finish after you complete the last prompt. 
      A page opens showing each of your recordings. 
    13. For each recording, you can View, or choose to Record Again.
    14. When you are happy with your recordings, click Send to [host name].

  • Record async from your phone

    1. Download and launch the Riverside iOS app or the Riverside Android app.
    2. Open the invite link you received.
      The invite URL looks like:
      https://riverside.fm/async-recording/invitation/bbee2ebli......62f
    3. Under Let's get started, enable access to the prompted permissions.
    4. Click Continue.
    5. Once you're ready to record, Click I'm ready. 
    6. At the bottom of the screen, click Record and start speaking.
    7. When you’re finished, click Stop.
    8. Click the video to preview it.
      To erase the footage and start over, click Retake at the bottom of the screen.
    9. If you're satisfied with the result, click Continue.
    10. Enter your name and email address to help distinguish the files for the host and provide contact information if needed.
    11. Click Send Recording.

  • You can record as many times as you want. The only recordings that will be sent to the host are the ones you select.
  • If a link has more than 1 prompt, or includes a personal intro video, you'll only see the first prompt and no intro video on the mobile app. You can still submit after answering just that first prompt. To record the full flow, use a computer.
  • Screen sharing is not available on mobile.
