Arrange your video layout to make your video more engaging, highlight key moments, and use different views for solo or multi-person recordings.
Apply a layout to individual scenes
Applying a layout to an individual scene allows for greater customization, including options for solo recordings. We recommend using smart layouts first to quickly and accurately apply dynamic layouts to your recording.
- Log in to your Riverside account.
- Open a recording in the editor.
- Apply smart layouts to quickly and accurately add scenes to your recording.
- Or, manually add a scene to the recording timeline, to determine where you would like to apply the layout.
- On the timeline, click the scene to select it.
The selected scene is highlighted in purple. - Under the video canvas, click Layout.
- In the layout library, choose a layout from one of the categories:
- Solo speaker
- One-on-one
- Sharing content
- Multi-speaker
Click Show all to see all layout options in each category.

Choose whether to apply the layout to only this scene or to all similar scenes. From the menu below the video canvas:

Select This scene to apply the layout only to the current scene.
- Select Similar scenes to apply the layout only to the scenes that have the same participants and currently share the same layout.

- Click the
horizontal flip icon to switch the layout position between left and right.
Click thevertical flip icon to switch the layout position between top and bottom.
Apply a layout to entire timeline
Applying a layout to the entire timeline can only be applied to multi-track recordings with video. These layouts override any layouts imposed on individual scenes.
- Log in to your Riverside account.

Open a recording in the editor.
Be sure it is a video recording with multiple tracks. - On the right, in the editor toolbar, click Layout.
- Choose a layout:
- Smart layouts: Automatically applies layouts with AI to create a dynamic video
- Full screen: Shows the speaker in the full frame
- Picture in picture: Shows the active speaker or screen share track in full screen, with up to two other participants shown in inset windows
To show more participants for picture in picture layout, apply a layout to an individual scene then choose Sharing Content. - Split screen: Shows the speaker in a larger screen with others alongside
- Grid: Shows everyone in an equal video frame

Good to know
- Once you've applied a layout, you can arrange the individual video tracks within it.
- If you do not see the layout library for the individual scenes, create a new edit.
