Apply smart layouts to your video

Smart layouts identifies the main speaker, based on speech and head nods, to automatically apply scenes and layouts to capture key moments in your video.

This ensures your content is engaging for viewers, while saving you hours of editing time.

Step by step

  1. Log in to your Riverside account.
  2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
  1. From the editor toolbar, click AI tools.
  2. Toggle on Smart layouts.
    Changes are reflected immediately.
  3. After Smart layouts are applied, a control panel opens.
    From this panel, you can adjust:
    • Style: Which layout to use when switching between speakers:
      • Smart
      • Full screen
      • Picture in picture
      • Split screen
      • Grid
    • Frequency: How often scenes switch:
      • High frequency switches scenes often and stays briefly on alternate scenes.
      • Slow frequency switches scenes less often and stays longer on alternate scenes.
    • Cutaway: Select the alternate shot for the scene sequence:
      • Grid only
      • Speakers only
      • Participant only
      • Grid or participant
    • Video frame:
      • Fill crops the video to fill the frame.
      • Fit fits the whole video to fit in the frame.

Smart layouts overrides any scenes or layouts you previously added to the timeline. You can always click undo-edit_reverse-left.svg Undo to revert the change back to the previous layout. You can make changes to the smart layout by editing the scenes and layouts in the timeline.

Scenes are automatically generated for screen shares, Media Board videos, and shared presentations so they are displayed as the primary video, making it easier for viewing.
