Step by step

  1. Log in to your Riverside account.
  2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
  1. From the Project panel on the left, click Personalize.
  2. Click Tone & Voice.
  3. Scroll to Dictionary.
  4. If your studio belongs to a production, choose the Studio or Production tab.
Entries in the studio dictionary apply only to this studio.
  5. Click Add word.
  6. Type the name, brand, or term you want transcripts to spell correctly.
Riverside also fixes similar-sounding misspellings of the term.
  7. To fix a specific misspelling instead of adding a term:
    • Next to Correct a misspelling, click the  toggle-on.svg toggle to turn it on.
    • Enter the incorrect spelling under Misspelling and the corrected spelling under Correct spelling.
  8. Click Add word (or Add correction, if you turned on Correct a misspelling).
Your dictionary now applies automatically to every transcript created from this point on.

Add an entry from the transcript

  1. In the editor, select the word or phrase you want to correct in the transcript.
  2. Click Correct.
  3. Type the correct spelling.
  4. Click Correct.
  5. Next to Add to dictionary, click the  toggle-on.svg toggle to turn it on.
Riverside saves this as a correction rule in your studio dictionary.

Good to know

  • Dictionary entries apply only to transcripts created after you add them. They don't change transcripts you already have.
  • A correction matches the text under Misspelling exactly and always inserts the Correct spelling exactly as you typed it. If the same misspelling would match both a word entry and a correction, Riverside applies the correction.
  • The studio dictionary and production dictionary are separate. Deleting an entry from one doesn't remove it from the other.
  • Each entry can be up to 60 characters. Words under 3 characters, and common words like "the," are ignored when added as a plain word. Corrections don't have this limit.
  • Riverside doesn't automatically add participant names to your dictionary. Add any names you want spelled correctly.
  • Dictionary matching, for both words and corrections, isn't affected by capitalization.
