Add video overlays in the editor

Add video layers from a royalty-free library or upload your own to seamlessly integrate dynamic visuals, enhancing your narrative with contextual B-roll and added depth.

Step by step

• From the toolbar

  

  1. Log in to your Riverside account.
  2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
  3. On the timeline, move the playhead to the desired location.
  4. In the editing toolbar, click either:
     • Your media. In the Videos panel, click Upload and choose a file on your computer.
     • Stock. Explore stock videos, or generate your own using the text field at the bottom of the panel.
  5. Click the video or drag and drop over Add to overlay in the video player to add as an overlay.
     • To play the video before adding, hover over it and click Preview.
  6. On the canvas, click and drag the video's corners to resize it or its edges to crop it. 
  7. Click the video overlay to open its menu. Then:
     • Click Ask to open Co-Creator to edit the video.
     • Click Crop to crop the video.
     • Click the Fill icon to fill the frame.
     • Click Border radius to round the corners.
     • Click Shadow to add a shadow.
     • Click the Animation icon to apply entry and exit animations.
     • Click the Opacity icon to adjust the video's transparency.
     • Click the Volume icon and drag the slider to adjust the volume.
     • Click the ••• [three dots] to change its layer, copy, or duplicate, or delete it.
  8. Adjust the overlay's duration on the timeline.

  1. Log in to your Riverside account.
  2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
  3. On the transcript, double click a word to select when you want the video overlay to appear.
  4. On the context menu, click Add and click either:
     • Your media. In the Videos panel, click Upload and choose a file on your computer.
     • Stock. Explore stock videos, or generate your own using the text field at the bottom of the panel.
  5. Click the video or drag and drop over Add to overlay in the video player to add as an overlay.
     • To play the video before adding, hover over it and click Preview.
  6. On the canvas, click and drag the video's corners to resize it or its edges to crop it. 
  7. Click the video overlay to open its menu. Then:
     • Click Ask to open Co-Creator to edit the video.
     • Click Crop to crop the video.
     • Click the Fill icon to fill the frame.

  8. Adjust the overlay's duration on the timeline.

Good to know

• Video overlays can overlap music overlays and other video overlays.
• A video overlay will always appear behind an image overlay, text overlay, or captions.
