Follow these steps when:
- You see the following error messages in the studio:
- "Recording stopped because of low storage"
- "Your recording will stop in x minutes"
- "Your computer stopped recording"
Likely causes:
This error messages "Recording stopped because of low storage" and "Your recording will stop in x minutes" appear when your browser storage is low. When you record on Riverside, it starts uploading your audio and video track files automatically. As the files are uploaded, or if the upload cannot happen immediately, they are temporarily stored on your browser.
The message "Your computer stopped recording" appears when your device is experiencing strain and force stops the recording. Reducing any extraneous strain on your device will allow recording to continue.
Suggested troubleshooting steps
Follow the steps below depending on which error you received in the studio.
Low storage
- Free up storage space on your device.
- Refresh the Riverside studio page.
- Close and reopen your browser.
- Be sure you are not using an incognito window in Chrome or an InPrivate window in Edge.
- Complete any pending uploads.
- Allow sites to save data (Chrome, Safari) or turn off 'Clear Site Data' (Edge).
- Allow notifications from Riverside in your browser.
- Update to the latest version of the Chrome or Edge browser.
- Create a new profile in the browser.
- If using Chrome, try using Edge to join the studio.
If using Edge, try using Chrome. - Restart your computer.
- Check available browser storage. Have at least 5 GB of free space on your device usable by your browser.

Clear your browser's cache and cookies.
- Do not clear your browser's cache if you have local tracks that have not finished uploading.
- Try using a different computer, the Mac app, or a mobile device to record.
- Temporarily turn off any browser extensions, VPNs, or firewalls.
Device strain
- Close all other programs and browser tabs.
- If your webcam has automatic settings like auto-exposure, auto-focus, or auto-white balance, consider turning them off.
- For example, how to do this using Logitech's Logi Tune software.
- If using a laptop, connect it to a power source.
- Or change its battery settings for maximum performance even when unplugged.
- If you're using a Mac, use the Mac app to record.
- Use the mobile app to record.
- Set the studio to standard resolution (720p).
- If possible, turn off your camera to only record audio, not audio with video.
- Join with a faster computer.
