Add image overlays in the editor

Add images to your video in the Editor to make your video more engaging. Upload your own pictures or choose from our photo library.

Animate image overlay

Step by step

  • From the toolbar

    Add image overlay from the toolbar

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
    3. On the timeline, move the playhead to the desired location.
    4. In the editing toolbar, click Images.
    5. In the Images panel, search the image library by keyword or click upload-tray.svg Upload and choose a JPG or PNG file on your computer.
      • To view the image larger and see more details, hover over it and click preview-expand-circle.svg Preview.
    6. Drag and drop the image onto the video canvas to add it to your edit.
      Or, click the video.
    7. On the canvas, click and drag the image's nob2.svg corners to resize it or its Nob.svg edges to crop it. 
    8. Click the image overlay to open its menu. Then:
      • Click Make video to convert the image to a video.
      • Click the refresh-cw-05.svg Replace icon to add a different image or upload. 
      • Click the expand-01.svg Fill video icon to fill the frame, and click the minimize-01.svg Minimize icon to make it smaller.
      • Click the shapes.svg Mask icon to crop the image into a shape, then choose a frame style.
      • Click the Animate.svgAnimation icon to apply entry and exit animations.
      • Click the opacity.svg Opacity icon to adjust the image’s transparency.
      • Click the trash.svg Trash icon to remove the image. 
      • Click the ••• [three dots] to change its layer, copy, or duplicate it.
    9. Adjust the overlay's duration on the timeline.
  • From the transcript

    Add image overlay from the transcript 

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
    3. On the transcript, click and select when you want the image overlay to appear.
    4. On the context menu, click add_element-plus.svg Add and choose Image.
    5. In the Images panel, search the image library by keyword or click upload-tray.svg Upload and choose a JPG or PNG file on your computer.
      • To view the image larger and see more details, hover over it and click preview-expand-circle.svg Preview.
    6. Drag and drop the image onto the video canvas to add it to your edit.
      Or, click the image.
    7. On the canvas, click and drag the image's nob2.svg corners to resize it or its Nob.svg edges to crop it. 
    8. Click the image overlay to open its menu. Then:
      • Click Make video to convert the image to a video.
