Understanding the embed analytics dashboard

Analytics data refreshes regularly, though it may take some time for visits and plays to reflect the most recent activity on your embed. These metrics give you visibility into how your embedded content performs everywhere you've placed it, whether that's your own website, a partner's blog, or a landing page, so you can see whether an embed is actually reaching and holding an audience rather than just sitting on a page.

Total visits

The Total visits metric shows the number of times the embedded player loaded on a page. This counts every page load, even if a viewer never presses play, so it's a good measure of how much exposure your embed is getting across the pages where it's placed.

Total plays

The Total plays metric shows the number of times a viewer actually started to play the embedded recording. Unlike Total visits, this only counts loads that turned into an actual play, giving you a clearer read on real viewer interest.

Play rate

The Play rate metric shows total plays divided by total visits, as a percentage. Use this to see how effectively your embed converts page views into plays. A low play rate can point to placement, thumbnail, or page context issues rather than the recording itself.

Average playtime

The Average playtime metric shows the average amount of time watched per play. This helps you gauge how much of your content people actually sit through once they start watching.

Average engagement

The Average engagement metric shows the average percentage of the recording that viewers watched. Higher engagement suggests the content held attention throughout, while a lower number can mean people are dropping off early.

Top country

The Top country metric shows the country where the recording was played the most, giving you a quick snapshot of where your biggest audience is concentrated.

Visits

The Visits chart plots total visits over the selected time range, so you can see how page loads for your embed trend day by day and spot any spikes tied to specific promotions or shares.

Plays

The Plays chart plots total plays over the selected time range, letting you track how actual viewership changes over time alongside your Visits trend.

Locations

The Locations metric shows total plays per location, based on the selected time range. This gives you a more granular view than Top country, useful for understanding regional or city-level audience concentration.

Engagement

The Engagement chart shows a retention curve across the recording's timeline. At each point, it shows what share of viewers are still watching. Where the line falls is where people dropped off, and spikes mean a section people rewatched. Use this to identify which parts of your content resonate most and where viewers tend to lose interest.

Top countries

The Top countries chart breaks down your audience by country, as a percentage of plays. This gives you the full geographic distribution of your audience, not just the single top country, which can help inform decisions like localization or scheduling around different time zones.

  • Embed analytics only start counting from when you create the embed.
  • Deleting the original recording in Riverside does not break a live embed. Existing embeds keep playing.
